Monster Jam World Finals 2006 – It’s for the Fans

Posted by zaphriel on April 1, 2006

The official results only tell half of the story…

Las Vegas, NV – Sam Boyd Stadium

Saturday March 25, 2006 – 7:30 p.m.

In what rates as the greatest event in Monster Jam history the legends returned to the top of the sport when Dennis Anderson drove Grave Digger to his second Monster Jam World Racing Championship in the last three years, and Tom Meents extended his all-time record by winning his seventh overall world title by piloting Maximum Destruction to the 2006 Monster Jam World Freestyle Championship in front of a sold out Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

The monster Jam World Finals is an experience, there is so much more to it than just the races.

PICT0109.JPGAs I wrote last year, Monster Jam is all about the fans. These drivers are the best bunch, as a whole, of any sport or sports entertainment crowd. They are friendly, aptient and always put on a happy face for the fans. They seem to actually enjoy their job, even when it means sitting outside in the wind, meeting fans and signing anything they put in front of you.

I arrived late to the pit party this year so I had no chance at meeting Dennis Anderson (unless I wanted to wait 2 1/2 hours). I met him last year, and then, he was awesome, and I saw nothing this year to indicate he was any different.

PICT0059.gifPICT0061.JPGThis years exciting addition (and my first stop at the pit party) was the Batman truck. Man that thing was awesome. A best rendition of the RC vehicle they put out last year, it was cool it see it actually get made. Up close it is awesome, with so many specialized body panels and double redundant construction. That truck is both good looking and very durable (as it proved in freestyle). Batman was one of the few trucks that left the arena mostly intact (however not under it’s own power).

Where Have All The Funny Cards Gone…

Posted by zaphriel on March 29, 2006

I came accross this story this morning. Some of these rejects are just hillarious.

Included among the discarded messages are Christmas cards:

FRONT: “Spread some holiday cheer.”

INSIDE: “Or drink alone. Who am I to judge?”

FRONT: “Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without peanut brittle.”

INSIDE: “Or Jesus.”

‘The Simpsons’ to Show Live-Action Opening

NEW YORK — Ever wonder what Bart Simpson would look like in human form? The longrunning animated FOX series “The Simpsons” is about to show you. The series will unveil a live-action opening sequence Sunday, 8 p.m. EST, a FOX spokeswoman announced Thursday.

In it, the dysfunctional cartoon family — Bart, Homer, Marge, Lisa and Maggie — will be seen as they would appear in real life, played by lookalike actors.

“I’m just amazed there are people who want to be known for looking like the Simpsons,” said Al Jean, the show’s executive producer, in a statement.

Commish Condoleezza?

Posted by zaphriel on March 22, 2006

condoleezza.jpgYesterday it was reported that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, might be interested in the newly opened NFL commissioner job.

While I love the Idea of Ms. Rice doing just about anything, even NFL commish, I think the league would benefit greatly. But alas, the timing was off…

Rice Punts on NFL Commissioner Post

NASSAU, Bahamas — Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, a huge football fan, ruled out applying for the newly opened post of NFL commissioner Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, it came open at the wrong time,” said Rice, who was clearly amused when a reporter posed the question. “Obviously, I’m very busy as secretary of state, and I intend to continue to be secretary of state as long as the president of the United States will have me.”

Rice, an avid follower of the Cleveland Browns and professional football in general, has frequently said she aspires to run the league one day.

In the days since NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue announced he would retire, Rice’s aides have said she was not interested.

Hopefully that’s so she can be free to run in ’08… Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

A 19th Century Gentleman’s Behavior Around a Lady: What We’ve Lost

Posted by Mark on February 25, 2006

There is very little here that would not be just as applicable today. In giving up these rules of behavior for the sake of “equality” we have lost much that makes us a civil society. HT to StumbleUpon

Spider-Man In Black?

Posted by zaphriel on February 24, 2006

sedyas_spidey.jpgOK Geek time…

I was following down a different story when I came across another story in the sidebar of this Denver News Channel site…

Maguire’s New ‘Spider-Man’ Suit Comes In Black

Tobey Maguire will be back — in black — for “Spider-Man 3.”

spidey3black.jpgSony Pictures released Friday a teaser poster of Maguire wearing a black Spidey suit for the next installment in the blockbuster film series.

Targeted for a May 4, 2007, release, the film stars Maguire, returning for another spin as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, as well as Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson and James Franco as Harry Osborne.

Sam Raimi is also back to direct his third Spidey film.

The studio announced previously that Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace would be playing villains in the film. Sony said in October that Church would be playing Spider-Man’s nemesis Flint Marko/Sandman.

A new image has been released from the Spiderman 3 movie camp.

Superherohype has an exclusive image from Spider-man 3. In the image, Spider-man appears to be wearing a black costume?

So what’s the big deal?

It depicts Spiderman in a Black Costume, any comic book geek knows what that means…

Posted by zaphriel on February 22, 2006

lotto.jpgWow, the big dream comes true for some working people.

Eight Meat Plant Workers Claim Lotto Jackpot

LINCOLN, Neb. — A group of eight workers from a meat processing plant in Nebraska on Wednesday claimed the record $365 million Powerball jackpot.

“Life just got a bit more interesting for eight Nebraskans,? Neb. Governor Dave Heineman said before the winners’ names were announced at a hotel in Lincoln, where the winning ticket in Saturday’s drawing was sold.

The eight will take home $15.5 million after taxes, and some do not plan on returning to work at the ConAgra ham and corned beef processing plant.

A Personality Test

Posted by Mark on February 21, 2006

A quick and dirty personality test, but has fairly reliable validity. Only 3% of the population is like me? So THAT explains Junior High School…:-)

ENTP – “Inventor”. Enthusiastic interest in everything and always sensitive to possibilities. Non-conformist and innovative. 3.2% of the total population.

This could not have been more accurate…WOW

INFP – “Questor”. High capacity for caring. Emotional face to the world. High sense of honor derived from internal values. 4.4% of total population.
