If I were you, I’d skip that vacation to Cancun. Down in Mexico…the bad guys always win. Yesterday, the anti-drug chief turned up dead….after ONE DAY on the job.
A recently retired Mexican army general whose bullet-riddled body was found Tuesday near Cancun had taken over as the area’s top antidrug official less than 24 hours earlier, officials said.
Retired Gen. Mauro Enrique Tello Quiñonez, his aide and a driver were tortured before being killed, said Quintana Roo state prosecutor Bello Melchor Rodriguez y Carrillo. He said there was no doubt Tello and the others were victims of organized crime.
“The general was the most mistreated,” Rodriguez said at a Tuesday night news conference monitored by El Universal newspaper. “He had burns on his skin and bones in his hands and wrists were broken.”
An autopsy revealed Tello also suffered broken knees and was shot 11 times, Mexico City’s Excelsior newspaper said.
Gee, how pleasant.
Why would anyone take that job? I mean…unless Mexican President, Felipe Calderón, sends in a MASSIVE force of National Guard to eradicate the drug lords and the drug cartels in places like Acapulco and Cancun, nothing is going to change.

Over the last year and a half, I’ve offered up a few of my reasons for leaving California. Although TOO NUMEROUS to mention, there were several that stood out. Hmmm…it looks like, I’m not alone.
Go East, young man? Californians look for the exit
Mike Reilly spent his lifetime chasing the California dream. This year he’s going to look for it in Colorado. With a house purchase near Denver in the works, the 38-year-old engineering contractor plans to move his family 1,200 miles away from his home state’s lemon groves, sunshine and beaches.
For him, years of rising taxes, dead-end schools, unchecked illegal immigration and clogged traffic have robbed the Golden State of its allure.
The clogged traffic? Um….only because 4 or 5 MILLION illegal immigrants walk the streets. Heck…the sidestreets are worse than the freeways.
The number of people leaving California for another state outstripped the number moving in from another state during the year ending on July 1, 2008. California lost a net total of 144,000 people during that period — more than any other state, according to census estimates. That is about equal to the population of Syracuse, N.Y.
The state with the next-highest net loss through migration between states was New York, which lost just over 126,000 residents.
Wasn’t I just mentioning New York? Uh….by George Stephanopoulos…I certainly was!
Why are so many looking for an exit?
Among other things: California’s unemployment rate hit 8.4 percent in November, the third-highest in the nation, and it is expected to get worse. A record 236,000 foreclosures are projected for 2008, more than the prior nine years combined, according to research firm MDA DataQuick. Personal income was about flat last year.
With state government facing a $41.6 billion budget hole over 18 months, residents are bracing for higher taxes, cuts in education and postponed tax rebates.
You can’t say, I didn’t warn you. I’ve blogged about this debacle, ’til I’m blue in the face. And let’s put it this way…(and in my best Arnold Schwarzenegger voice)… I’ll NOT be back.

Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate’s life for me
We pillage plunder, we rifle and loot
Drink up me ‘earties, yo ho
We kidnap and ravage and don’t give a hoot
Drink up me ‘earties, yo ho
SAY WHAT? Yah. Apparently, taking on the job of a pirate has become quite lucrative. In Somalia, it’s a booming business.
Somali pirates struck again yesterday, seizing an Iranian cargo ship holding 30,000 tonnes of grain, as the world’s governments and navies pronounced themselves powerless against this new threat to global trade.
Admiral Michael Mullen, the US military chief, pronounced himself stunned by the pirates’ reach after their capture of the supertanker Sirius Star and its $100 million (£70 million) cargo. The Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, the owner of the ship, condemned the hijacking as an “outrageous act” that required international action.
You GOTTA be kidding me.
Roger Middleton, a Horn of Africa specialist at the Chatham House think-tank, said that the capture was a crucial escalation. “Now that they have shown they are able to seize an enormous ship like this, it is beyond a military solution. You won’t fix this without a political solution.”
The limitations of naval action are refocusing international attention on the conflict within Somalia, where the rule of warlords, the lack of a functioning government and resulting anarchy have spawned the piracy epidemic.
Oh brother….nothing like a passive response to an aggressive problem. Forget the Horn of Africa…the pirates know it for what it is- the Horn of PLENTY.
Gee….let’s all gnash our teeth, ring our hands, and sleep a little less at night. Let’s point fingers and discuss and debate and….and…and well….let’s express outrage! Meanwhile, these same pirates are building MANSIONS (yes…you read that right) and driving SUVs in their hometown of Eyl from the ransom money.
In recent years, piracy has become Eyl’s main industry, with the buccaneers’ vast profits paying for sprawling mansions and expensive cars. Piracy is now so slick in Eyl that special restaurants have been set up to prepare European food for crews of hijacked vessels.
The gangs know it is in their best interests to keep crews safe and well to secure the highest possible ransoms.
The whole Puntland region benefits from the maritime crimewave, but it is the few dozen pirates – mostly aged 20 to 35 – who actually take to the high seas that gain the richest rewards.
Abdi Farah Juha, who lives in the regional capital, Garowe, said: “They wed the most beautiful girls; they are building big houses; they have new cars; new guns.” He added: “They have money; they have power and they are getting stronger by the day.”
Trust me…I couldn’t possibly make this up.

Looks like those murdering jihadists who were responsible for the bombings in Bali in 2002- have been given ‘death by firing squad’.
Good riddance. Oh…and make sure you bury these Muslim psychopaths face down….so they can see Hell.
Three men convicted of carrying out two nightclub bombings that killed 202 people on the resort island of Bali six years ago will be executed by firing squad next month, Indonesian authorities said.
The men showed neither fear nor remorse in a recent interview with CNN.
The deadly blasts ripped through two popular nightclubs in Bali’s Kuta in October 2002. Most of the dead were young Australians. More than 300 people were wounded. Dozens of victims were burned beyond recognition or blown to pieces by the massive blasts.
Leave it to CNN to check in on them…to try and appreciate how ‘they feel’ and to try and find out why they’re so UPSET and ANGRY….and so MISUNDERSTOOD. Afterall, it’s the evil Westerners’ fault. Let’s make sure we engage in constructive dialogue…to try and ‘reach out’ to them….so that we can bridge our differences…..and….and….can’t we all just get along!
The pain and suffering these 3 animals have caused…takes your breath away. But the good news is: their breath will be permanently taken away.

According to a knuckleheaded death row inmate in Ohio…obese men and women are too fat to execute. Yah right. Hmmm…took the state of Ohio all of 5 minutes. Guess that hypothesis didn’t work out for you..huh? But I guess if a skinny guy only takes 4 minutes and 45 seconds to be put to death…you may be onto something BUSTER.
An Ohio death row inmate was executed Tuesday after the Supreme Court rejected his last-minute plea that he was too overweight to be put to death.
Richard Cooey was pronounced dead at 10:28 a.m. ET, said Andrea Carson, spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Corrections. The execution went as scheduled, she said, with “no problems whatsoever.”
Yah. I suspect that the needle and the drugs had NO IDEA how much he weighed.
also contended regular medication he took for migraines would weaken the effectiveness of an anesthetic used in the three-drug cocktail administered during execution. He said his veins were weakened because of his health issues, and the lethal drugs would constitute cruel and unusual punishment.
Cruel and Unusual? Don’t you love it when brutal murderers roll out that bull**** line of defense? Uh…let me remind everyone what kind of ‘fun guy’ this man was:
Cooey and a then-17-year-old accomplice were convicted of the brutal murders of Wendy Offredo and Dawn McCreery, students at the University of Akron. The men had been tossing concrete slabs onto Interstate 77, and one of them struck Offredo’s car.
Pretending to “rescue” the women, Cooey and Clinton Dickens took the victims to a remote field, according to prosecutors. There the students were subjected to a three-and-a-half-hour period of rape, torture, stabbings and fatal bludgeonings. Cooey carved an “X” into the stomachs of both women, prosecutors said.
So what kind of treatment did those 2 girls get, huh Cooey? You pathetic miscreant. But I’ve got good news for you…now that you’re dead….I suspect you’ll be losing…..A LOT OF WEIGHT.

Has to be. I mean…c’mon. It’s a cesspool of everything wrong about a large industrial city.
Mayor Kwame M. Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to felony charges here on Thursday and agreed to resign from office and serve 120 days in jail, ending eight months of political turmoil but also opening a new era of uncertainty for the city.
After the agreement, Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm of Michigan suspended her hearing on whether to remove Mr. Kilpatrick for misconduct, relieving her of being in the awkward position of possibly ousting the mayor, a fellow Democrat, from office.
The City Council that will now try to bring stability to the nation’s 11th largest city is known for its volatility.
And some members of the Council are under federal investigation for possibly taking payoffs before approving a multimillion-dollar sewage contract.
Detroit is a violent corrupt urban landscape. And may very well be- the most dangerous city in America (although Los Angeles is closing fast). And now it’s criminally mismanaged with no real leadership?
One big recipe- for disaster.

Yes….Jose, this time instead of crossing the Rio Grande river to rape and kill 2 innocent girls– you crossed the river Styx to kill time in HELL.
Mexican national Jose Ernesto Medellin, whose death penalty conviction in the rape and murder of two teen girls sparked international controversy, was put to death in Texas on Tuesday night, prison officials said.
The U.S. Supreme Court denied the last-ditch appeal of a Mexican national on Texas’ death row late Tuesday, paving the way for him to be executed for a pair of brutal slayings, state corrections officials said.
There is much more to this story. But the short version is: the U.S. Supreme Court grew a pair of juevos (who knew!) and agreed that domestic law TRUMPS International law. And….the good news is: Mr. Medillin will NOT be a repeat offender.

Hmmm….this actually may close the book on all those post 9/11 Anthrax attacks back in 2001. Very strange- the FBI may have found the right guy.
A top U.S. biodefense researcher apparently committed suicide just as the Justice Department was about to file criminal charges against him in the anthrax mailings that traumatized the nation in the weeks following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, according to a published report.
The scientist, Bruce E. Ivins, 62, who worked for the past 18 years at the government’s biodefense labs at Fort Detrick, Md., had been told about the impending prosecution, the Los Angeles Times reported for Friday editions. The laboratory has been at the center of the FBI’s investigation of the anthrax attacks, which killed five people.
I don’t think I would commit suicide if I was INNOCENT. But what’s maddening is…if he was indeed- the mad scientist behind the nationwide Anthrax panic- we will never know what his motive was.
All of this reads like a creepy science fiction book.

Lo siento mucho!
I want San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to say (…and in perfect accented Spanish no less) that to the WIFE of Anthony Bologna and his two children- Matthew and Michael.
Local and federal authorities in San Francisco are pointing the figure at each other over who is to blame for the March release of an illegal immigrant now charged with triple murder.
Officials from Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department are blaming each other for the release of Edwin Ramos, 21, the Salvadoran national charged with the murders last month of Anthony Bologna and his two sons as they were returning home from a picnic.
Yep. On 3 different occasions…they could’ve deported this illegal murderer. But…no. It’s more important that the city defy federal law- and provide sanctuary to illegal aliens.
The case prompted public outcry after it emerged that when Ramos was 17, because of the city’s sanctuary policy, local officials did not contact the feds to determine his immigration status when he was convicted on two gang-related felonies. He also was arrested with an acquaintance earlier this year on a gun charge.
A father and his 2 sons are dead because of the city’s complete disregard for our country’s immigration laws. That is PROFOUNDLY unconscionable.

No…I’m NOT kidding. That’s how pathetic San Francisco has become. Reason #4,589…why I left California. Moral equivalency run amok.
An effort by San Francisco to shield eight young Honduran crack dealers from federal immigration officials backfired when the youths escaped from Southern California group homes within days of their arrival, officials said Monday.
The walkaways are the latest in a string of embarrassments for city officials who are protecting illegal-immigrant drug dealers from federal authorities and possible deportation because of San Francisco’s 1989 declaration that the city is a sanctuary for undocumented immigrants.
Yes…you read that correctly. Keeping crack dealers who are ILLEGAL aliens in the United States is more important than deporting them. How twisted is that?
When federal law enforcement authorities demanded that San Francisco halt the flights and began a criminal investigation, the city decided to house some of the dealers in long-term youth rehabilitation centers. Some of those centers are run by a nonprofitcompany called Silverlake Youth Services in mountain towns southeast of San Bernardino.
Eight Honduran juveniles who had been convicted of dealing drugs in San Francisco were sent within the past few weeks to the company’s group homes, where one month’s placement costs $7,000 per youth – an expense borne by San Francisco taxpayers.
