Awww….Can’t You Take a Joke? You Betcha!

Posted by redsatellite on October 17, 2008

SarahPalin will be appearing on Saturday Night Live….and I find that nothing short of… remarkable. To her credit…she will be stepping- high heels and 12 gauge- into the lion’s den.

Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin plans to appear on “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, multiple sources told CNN Thursday.

“Saturday Night Live” has featured three opening skits in which former cast member and Palin lookalike Tina Fey portrays the Alaska governor.

Meanwhile, John McCain appeared on David Letterman last night- to face his ire– after his much publicized absence from a promised appearance last month.

John McCain has learned his lesson: Don’t ever cancel on David Letterman. Appearing on the late night comedian’s show Thursday, the Republican presidential candidate apologized for skipping out on a scheduled visit late last month that Letterman later made the subject of an ongoing joke.

“I screwed up,” McCain told Letterman more than once in the interview that’s set to air Thursday night.

All that said…I also find it…NO SURPRISE– to read this:

The Center for Media and Public Affairs, a media analysis group, kept a tally of jokes told about the presidential contenders on the “Late Show” and “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” in the five weeks after McCain chose Sarah Palin to be his running mate and vaulted the little-known Alaska governor into the national spotlight.

The total: Republicans, 286. Democrats, 42.

So then the question becomes: why even do it? Why appear on these shows…if you’re going to be lambasted and lampooned anyway?

To Sarah and John’s credit…and given this much ridicule….they still manage to be able to take a joke. But if their underlying effort is to try and get this huge cast of liberals and progressives to like them…???

Uh…God Bless You….you’re a much better person than me.

Note to Dr. Phil: Can You Spell HIPPA?

Posted by Mark on January 9, 2008

My wife thinks Dr. Phil is great. I think he’s very good at “slicing and dicing” a poor person apart on television. He’s not so hot at the real work of therapy, which is putting the pieces back together again.  Now, with rating and dollar signs in his eyes, he just may have stepped off the professional cliff he’s been teetering on for so long.

NEW YORK (AP) – Britney Spears’ family says “Dr. Phil” McGraw crossed the line by not keeping his mouth shut after making a house call on the singer last week. Lou Taylor, a business manager for Spears’ mother, Lynne, and younger sister, Jamie Lynn, appeared on NBC’s “Today” show Wednesday and said McGraw had betrayed the family’s trust by talking to the media about Spears’ mental health after showing up at the 26-year-old pop star’s hospital room on Saturday for a visit.

“The family basically extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements,” Taylor said. “Any statement publicly that he made, because he was brought in under this cloak of trust, (is) just inappropriate.”

Not just inappropriate, but possibly a violation of the confidentiality of a patient, a serious offense. In fact, under HIPPA, this is punishable by both fines and jail times.

As another well known television personality would say;

Spider-Man In Black?

Posted by zaphriel on February 24, 2006

sedyas_spidey.jpgOK Geek time…

I was following down a different story when I came across another story in the sidebar of this Denver News Channel site…

Maguire’s New ‘Spider-Man’ Suit Comes In Black

Tobey Maguire will be back — in black — for “Spider-Man 3.”

spidey3black.jpgSony Pictures released Friday a teaser poster of Maguire wearing a black Spidey suit for the next installment in the blockbuster film series.

Targeted for a May 4, 2007, release, the film stars Maguire, returning for another spin as Peter Parker/Spider-Man, as well as Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson and James Franco as Harry Osborne.

Sam Raimi is also back to direct his third Spidey film.

The studio announced previously that Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace would be playing villains in the film. Sony said in October that Church would be playing Spider-Man’s nemesis Flint Marko/Sandman.

A new image has been released from the Spiderman 3 movie camp.

Superherohype has an exclusive image from Spider-man 3. In the image, Spider-man appears to be wearing a black costume?

So what’s the big deal?

It depicts Spiderman in a Black Costume, any comic book geek knows what that means…

Batman takes on Al Queda

Posted by zaphriel on February 13, 2006

drk-ngt2.jpgI cannot wait to buy this book. Frank Miller is Awesome, and he does my favorite comic character with such zeal…

Holy Terror Batman

Batman kicks Al Qaeda’s butt. Frank Miller’s talks about upcoming book.

February 12, 2006 – During his WonderCon panel, Frank Miller discussed his next graphic novel. Once again, Miller returns to the world of the Batman, this time with Holy Terror, Batman!. Though the title plays with Robin’s classic catchphrase, the book deals with a serious subject. Gotham has been attacked by Al Qaeda and Batman sets out to defend the city he loves. The book, which Miller has inked through 120 pages, is expected to run roughly 200 pages total.

cap1.jpgMiller proudly announced the title of his next Batman book, which he will write, draw and ink. Holy Terror, Batman! is no joke. And Miller doesn’t hold back on the true purpose of the book, calling it “a piece of propaganda,” where ‘Batman kicks al Qaeda’s a**.”

It’s been a long time since heroes were used in comics as pure propaganda. As Miller reminded, “Superman punched out Hitler. So did Captain America. That’s one of the things they’re there for.”

“These are our folk heroes,” Miller said. “It just seems silly to chase around the Riddler when you’ve got Al Qaeda out there.”

Miller gave warning on our expectations over the visual style of the book. “Be afraid,” he said, adding, “I think it’s some of the best artwork I’ve ever done.”

OK, so the geek in me is just giddy over this, my two favorite subjects, kicking Al Queda’s butt & Batman, in one graphic novel with Frank Miller at the pen…

I know it won’t be any litterary masterpiece, but still…

I’m speechless…

I am literally shaking right now…
