Maureen’s Effete Erudition

Posted by redsatellite on October 5, 2008

Maureen Dowd, the self-appointed matriarch of elocution, eloquence, enunciation and anything else that begins with the letter E, has decided to use her self-aggrandizing Op-Ed platform at the NY Times as an opportunity to vilify Sarah Palin for her grammar and use of the English language.

Sarah’s Pompom Palaver

Being mush-mouthed helped give the patrician Bushes the common touch. As Alistair Cooke observed, “Americans seem to be more comfortable with Republican presidents because they share the common frailty of muddled syntax and because, when they attempt eloquence, they do tend to spout a kind of Frontier Baroque.”

Darn right. And that, doggone it, brings us to a shout-out for the latest virtuoso of Frontier Baroque, bless her heart, the governor of the Last Frontier. Her reward’s in heaven.

At Sarah Palin’s old church in Wasilla, they spoke in tongues. Maybe that’s where she picked it up.

I too appreciate good grammar, correct pronunciation, and subject/verb agreement. But Maureen, honey… silly parochial schoolgirl…that’s YOUR JOB. Let’s hope that you passed English 101 and English 102 on your way to that glam position at the Times. Otherwise, well… you’d be a fraud like Jayson Blair.

Why shucks..Miss Dowd…if your proper vocabulary and syntax were suspect….I might have to compare you to Uncle Remus. And we wouldn’t want that.

Gosh darn it…quit comparing your superior intellect and pedigree to everyone else…sweetie pie, otherwise you’re just another snarky ethnocentric and aging spinster who most people can’t stand….oh that’s right…
