Earthrise from Kaguya

Posted by Mark on November 15, 2007

Space exploration is a multi-national affair these days. These shots from Japan’s moon explorer Kaguya remind us again of just how small and beautiful our planet really is.

Let’s Get Rich Quick on the Internet…Not.

Posted by Mark on November 15, 2007

If you’ve ever had a period of time away from work due to unemployment or disability, you find yourself drawn to the hundreds of “get rich quick” schemes on the internet.  If you listen to radio, especially talk radio, on your commute home you hear the same ads for ways to get rich, to get out of debt, to earn a “2nd” income..yada…yada…yada. That doesn’t even count the spam sites. Should you want a list of those, Matt, Craig and I would be happy to stop our comment filter for a day.   Denitsa over at After the Pink Goat has a good look at all the different scams, and what they are really selling.
Personal confession: (you can skip this should you have a sudden desire to roll your eyes.)

A few years back, I had a dream that I could make some money with LJiC. Matt and I even discussed it, back in the days when we first teamed up.  LJiC kept me occupied while I was recovering from a major illness. The total made on LJiC according to my PayPal account is exactly $21.32.  That dates back over 3 years now. It’s based on two, count ’em, two blog ads, one of which was for some movie that must have had money to burn, the other for a new book I can’t remember. For those of you keeping score, that ain’t getting rich.

LJiC will never make money.  And no internet money maker will make me any money either. But I still come back to LJiC to post interesting articles I find, and just to state my opinion. I think that’s enough.

Has A Poor Person Hired You Lately?

Posted by Mark on November 15, 2007

Warren Buffet, the Oracle of Omaha, has decided the U.S. government should get more of his money. I find this astounding. I’m always amazed when a self-made BILLIONAIRE embraces liberal policy.

Billionaire Warren Buffett told the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday that Congress should keep the estate tax rather than repeal it and help a few rich Americans like him.

“I think we need to … take a little more out of the hides of guys like me,” Buffett told the panel.

One of the world’s richest men and biggest philanthropists, Buffett has been outspoken against efforts, mostly by Republicans, to repeal or reduce the federal tax on inheritances. Democrats argue that a repeal would amount to a huge windfall for the nation’s wealthiest families.

The redistribution of wealth is the cornerstone of the liberal mindset. And Buffet, who apparently has completely lost his mind, is singing their song. (And in soaring a capella!) Nevermind that this social manifesto is ANATHEMA to the American paradigm. Sure, let’s tax everyone to death….and beyond.

Simply put: a poor person has never ever ever ever hired or employed another American. Oh heck, let me add a few more evers.

Ever ever ever ever…..
