Killing the Messenger: It’s Russert’s Fault!

Posted by Mark on November 1, 2007

So, the debate was on MSNBC. Only a few dozen…er…hundred…er thousand…people watched it. The damage to Hillary continues to reverberate, as she once again failed to answer any question asked of her truthfully. But, it’s the media’s fault, most especially Tim Russert, that soldier of the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy In a conference call monitored by The Hill, the problem was clear:

While one supporter voiced his concern that the Clinton campaign is not devoting enough money and staff to Iowa, lagging behind Obama, most supporters who commented on the call expressed their displeasure with what they saw as the moderators’ focus on Clinton.

One caller from Oklahoma City said that “the questions … were designed to incite a brawl,” and that Russert’s and Brian Williams’s moderating was “an abdication of journalistic responsibility.”

Translation: How dare Tim Russert and Brian Williams treat our candidate as though she were a Republican!

The solution to the problem was clear:

Another said Russert “should be shot,” before quickly adding that she shouldn’t say that on a conference call.

Penn and Mantz said they were hearing a lot of the same sentiment from other supporters, but they do not plan to engage the media or the debate’s moderators.

Once Hillary takes power, firing squads for journalists who step out of line will be on the agenda for the first 100 days. But until then, such things should NOT be mentioned in conference calls. Heh.
