A Great Movie…

Posted by zaphriel on June 18, 2005

So yesterday I had the opportunity to watch “Batman Begins”. Now if any of you know me very well, I am a HUGE Batman fan. I am one of the “purists”, so the last Batman film, Batman and Robin, disappointed me beyond belief. I am very critical of the Batman movies; I tend to notice all of the inconsistencies.

All that being said, Batman Begins is the BEST MOVIE SO FAR THIS YEAR, and I am not just saying that. I saw Star wars this year, and I liked it, but comparatively it was just OK. Batman Begins really took the Batman films in a whole new direction, one more consistent with the original comics. It was well written, well directed, and very well put together. It wasn’t childish or campy and I was on the edge of my seat the entire movie. My thumb is lacking a nail today mainly because of this movie (When I am excited, I chew my nails, thus I rate movies by how many finger nails I have left, in this case the answer is 2). You must see this movie IN THE THEATER.

On the side however, there were undercurrents of politics, similar to Star wars. However while the undercurrents of Star wars were liberal in nature, Batman Begins was very conservative. Allot of law and order, freedom of commerce, and rising oneself up. Additionally I could completely relate to Christian Bale’s Batman. His struggle from within reminded me of my personal struggles as of late. Balancing the want for revenge with the need for justice. Doing what is right in spite of your personal feelings, and standing up, when everything is going wrong and DOING SOMETHING. I realize those are not all conservative values, but they are values we all should have.

P.S. I must leave on business for a week so posting may be slim, please feel free to comment on any of my previous posts.
