The news (or non news) of the day.

Posted by zaphriel on June 11, 2005

So today as I was doing guard drill, I was thinking of what I should blog about. Often I thought of this bastard. This worthless POS, decided that murder and mayhem were not enough, he wanted to toy with the families of the victims and this great state of Nevada just a few times before he died.

Revenge. Obsession. And a temper beyond control.

This lethal combination led Robert McConnell to plot a murder, shoot the young man who was living with his former girlfriend and then rape and kidnap her.

And given the opportunity, he said, he would finish the task: The woman, then 25, would not be spared.

“I wouldn’t play around and have feelings like I did the last time,? McConnell says during a recent interview at the Nevada State Prison in Carson City. “I wouldn’t let her get away. She would be tortured and killed. And her dad.?

These thoughts and this admission come from a man who seemingly has nothing else to lose — a cocky, aggressive guy who doesn’t drink, smoke or do drugs and characterized by prosecutors as an evil, cold, calculating control freak who would stop at nothing to get his way.

After dropping all appeals and vowing before a jury and a judge to take responsibility for his crime by saving the victim’s family any more grief, McConnell is scheduled to die of lethal injection Thursday for the brutal murder of 25-year-old Brian Pierce on Aug. 7, 2002.

Oh Yeah, This guy is a real winner. Well that was a few days ago, then this evil little SOB, threatened the corrections dept. that he would pull a last minute appeal if he was not allowed to see his mother. Well, he was allowed to see his mommy, and apparently he never was in jeopardy of not seeing her, and he pulled the appeal card anyway.>

Thirty-nine minutes before he was scheduled to be strapped to a gurney and be injected with a lethal dose of drugs, Robert McConnell signed documents Thursday night to appeal his case and a judge ordered the execution stopped.

Washoe District Judge Steven Kosach issued an order to stay the execution at 8:21 p.m.

McConnell, 32, had vowed to drop all appeals and proceed with his death as a way to save the family of his victim, Brian Pierce, further grief. But without releasing a statement, he signed papers for post-conviction relief and will be returned to death row at Ely State Prison on Monday, said Jackie Crawford, director of the Nevada Department of Corrections.

Oh and this oh so lovable fellow had people actually protesting his execution

Outside the walls of the Nevada State Prison in Carson City, opponents of the death penalty greeted word of Robert Lee McConnell’s appeals as good news, while a supporter of victims’ rights thought McConnell was just toying with the system.

No duh, he was toying with the system. This guy is a diabolical killer with absolutely no remorse, I wonder how the protester would feel if he was released among them and he killed again. This guy need to fry, the current form of capital punishment we have here in Nevada is too good for the likes of him, but it will do. He has admitted his crime, he shows no remorse, and worst of all he is using the system to torment his victims as much as he can.

Blogger Wanted: Apply at CNN

I’d apply, but I don’t have the television experience. Sadly, I have a face that is perfect for radio, and a voice that is more appropriate to the blog. Sigh.

The Autorantic Virtual Moonbat

Okay, I admit it. I love this program! The whole time I’m typing some profound comment in haloscan, the Moonbat keeps blinking at me, and then spouting some silly leftist parody. But the parody is so close to what I’m hearing from the left that I have to stop and laugh. Someday I really hope to meet the Gleeson clan. Their service to the cause of comedy is inestimable.

MS Sucks: Perspective on a Horrible Illness

Posted by Mark on June 11, 2005

A very good friend of mine has severe mulitiple sclerosis. It affects every facet of her life. This site has given me a great deal of perspective on her plight, and the courage she shows every single day by just opening her eyes in the morning. One of the best parts of the site is The MS Perspective Kit. A great way to understand the millions of sufferers of this awful disease.
