Evolution Vs. Creation

Posted by zaphriel on March 13, 2005

First off, I don’t often post “cute” or “funny” e-mails, because I hate Junk & Chain e-mails. They are the scourge of the internet.

Second, as far as the Evolution Vs. Creation argument, I would be considered a Guided Evolutionist (though I really hate labels, they are so very restictive.) This basically means I beleive in Intelligent Design. The eveidence for evolution is overwhelming and I would be remiss if I ignored it. I also beleive in god, and I beleive he created and is a part of everything, so I perfer to beleive his method of creation IS evolution. A process that he designed and he guides to his eventual plan, and like all being I am sure he occationally changes his mind, so he set up a process in which to change what he doesn’t like. That being said…

My wife does read all of her e-mails (even the chain letters) and sometimes she comes across some good ones, ones that entertain, ones that are meant to be funny, this is one of them:

One Nation, “Under GOD”
One day, a 6 year old girl was sitting in a classroom. The Teacher was explaining evolution to the children.
The Teacher asked a little boy: Tommy do you see the tree outside?
TEACHER: Tommy, do you see the grass outside?
TEACHER: Go outside and look up and see if you can see the sky.
TOMMY: Okay. (He returned a few minutes later) Yes, I saw the sky.
TEACHER: Did you see GOD?
TEACHER: That’s my point. We can’t see GOD because HE isn’t there. HE just doesn’t exist.

A little girl spoke up wanting to ask the boy some questions.
The Teacher agreed the little girl asked the boy: Tommy, do you see the tree outside?
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy do you see the grass outside?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Did you see the sky?
TOMMY: Yessssss!
LITTLE GIRL: Tommy, do you see the Teacher?
LITTLE GIRL: Do you see her brain?
LITTLE GIRL: Then according to what we were taught today, she doesn’t have one!

Now, I am a guided evolutionist, so I found this whole thing funny, even though it is clearly written by a pure creationist. Any teacher who is so close minded, misrepresents evolution so badly and is so vocally atheist is not be a very good teacher to begin with. Your task as a teacher is not to outwardly offend your students, but to present ideas and thought in an evenhanded fashion, to allow the students to stand the ideas up to reason. But non-the- less, I found this e-mail humorous.

Today’s Thought: With all things in life, put it to the test. Does it stand to reason?

Traditional First Post

Posted by zaphriel on March 13, 2005

This is my traditional first post.
Over the next few days I will set-up this blog.
It will be about how I became to be a Neocon.
So follow me on my journey through my thirties as I discover the roots of my past, and how I became the man I am today.
